I just wanted to send this out, in case you do not already know & to give you all a heads up, and be able to prepare for the new official Pony league baseball bat rules, that will come into effect on January 1, 2018. It is a USA Baseball rule, that is being adopted by Pony, (which sanctions Pinto, Mustang, Bronco, & Pony), Little League, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, Dixie Youth, etc.
The rule from the Pony website states:
In conjunction with USA Baseball and its other participating national member organizations, PONY Baseball has adopted the new USA Baseball batstandard (USABat). Effective January 1, 2018, with the exception of -3 (BBCOR certified), all other minus factor bats (-5, -7, -9, etc.), must be YBBCOR certified with the USABat licensing stamp on the bat in order to be used for league and tournament play. Minus factor bats -5, -7, -9, etc. used in 2017 will be illegal to use in 2018. The new YBBCOR certified bats bearing the USABat licensing mark are expected to be offered in retail stores in September.
For more on the new rule, see these websites:
Basically, it is to limit the pop on baseball bats, being used nowadays, and make them perform more like wood bats. What that comes down to is, everyone that has a drop -5 and higher will need a new bat, that has the USA Baseball licensing mark. Those bats will start to come out in August or September, of this year.
For Shetland parents, this rule only applies to baseball. This does not apply to the softball side.
